Elisabeth Babcock

MA, LAC

Liz has a Master of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. She is an LAC and has experience working with teens and adults from diverse backgrounds and experiences. She has experience with a variety of disorders including anxieties, depression, life changes, ADHD, Autism, substance use problems, eating disorders, and trauma. She works with issues surrounding sexuality as well as conflict in personal and social relationships.

Liz’s theoretical orientation blends person centered therapy (PCT), psychoanalytic theory, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). PCT recognizes trust and validation as critical components of the therapeutic relationship and understands the client is the expert of their life. She meets clients “where they are” in their personal growth journey as a source of open, positive, and encouraging support. CBT encourages clients to seek connections between thought and behavior patterns and examine those which interfere with the client’s daily healthy function. CBT equips clients with coping skills and tools to break disruptive and maladaptive cycles. Psychoanalytic theory views the past as a key to the present. This theory seeks to discover and understand the origins and scope of certain problems in the context of upbringing. This exploration creates space to analyze formative events and environments in order to process their effects on the present and progress on the client’s personal growth journey.

She believes that clients are their own source of empowerment, and that we have the answers and tools we need within us already. In therapy, she helps the client access and utilize what they need within themselves to work through problems with strength and resilience.
